Privacy Policy
Snartek is a service of Wifigate AS, Norway. Last updated 28 September 2026.
What Snartek is
Snartek lets you connect wireless sensors (temperature, humidity, water leak, door contact, radiator thermostats) and see their readings in the Snartek app at app.snartek.no or in the mobile apps. This policy explains what data we handle, why, and what your rights are. It applies to the app, the website snartek.no and the sensors' network service.
Data we collect
- Account: your email address, your first and last name, and a password (stored only as a salted hash). Used to sign you in and to send account emails (verification, password reset, deletion notice).
- Contact and delivery details: your phone number and postal address (street, postal code, city, country), if you give them. They are optional when you sign up and required only when you order hardware, so that we can deliver it and invoice you correctly. Your country also determines the VAT on your invoices. Your phone number and address are stored encrypted, so they cannot be read from a database copy or a backup. You can change them yourself at any time in the app under Account → Your details.
- Sensor readings: the measurements your sensors send (for example 21.4 °C, 61 % humidity, door open/closed), together with the time, the sensor's identifier and radio quality. Readings are linked to your account from the moment you add the sensor until you remove it.
- Gateway data: if you own a gateway, its identifier, online status and which of your sensors it relays.
- Technical data: the IP address and browser or device type used when you sign in or add a device, kept in a security log. When you create an account we also record the IP address, the app or browser used, and the approximate place that IP address belongs to (country, region, city and internet provider, as published by the provider – never your device's position), so that we can spot fake sign-ups and abuse. This is stored with your account and shown only to our support staff.
- Names you give things: room names and sensor names you choose in the app.
We do not track your location: we collect no GPS or device position, and the app never asks for location access. The postal address above is one you type in yourself for delivery and invoicing, and a room or sensor name such as "Hovedlager, dør 3" is simply a label you choose. We collect no contacts, no photos and no advertising identifiers. When you photograph a sensor's registration slip in the app, the image is processed on your phone to read the printed codes and is never uploaded.
Why we process it (legal basis)
To provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract, GDPR art. 6(1)(b)); to keep the service secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interest, art. 6(1)(f)); and to meet legal obligations such as bookkeeping (art. 6(1)(c)). We do not sell data and we do not use it for advertising.
Where it is stored
All data is stored on servers operated by Wifigate AS in Norway. Transactional emails are sent through Microsoft Azure Communication Services (EU region).
One thing does leave the EEA: if you turn on push notifications, the alert is delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android and Apple Push Notification service on iOS, which means a notification token and the text of the alert pass through those services in the United States. That transfer relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Push is optional — if you turn notifications off, nothing is sent to them, and you still receive alerts by email.
How long we keep it
- Sensor readings: while the sensor is on your account, and as history for as long as your plan's retention period (30 days to 2 years). Readings recorded before you added a sensor, or after you removed it, are not shown to you and are not attributed to you.
- Account: until you delete it. Deletion is scheduled with a 7-day grace period during which you can cancel; afterwards your account and readings are removed and identifiers are anonymised.
- Security log: 12 months.
- Invoices and sales records: five years after the end of the financial year, as Norwegian bookkeeping law requires. These contain your name and address, and they are the one thing we cannot delete when you close your account — the law obliges us to keep them. They are not used for anything else.
Your rights
You can export your readings as PDF or CSV from the app at any time, for a period you choose (Account → Your data). You can correct your own name, phone number and address under Account → Your details; your country is fixed after sign-up because it determines your VAT, so contact us to change it. You can delete your account from the app, or at api.snartek.no/delete-account if you have lost access to it.
You also have the right to access your data, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to receive it in a portable form, and to object to or restrict processing. If you think we have handled your data wrongly you can complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority. Contact us at support@wifigate.no.
Cookies
The website uses no tracking cookies and no analytics. The app stores your sign-in session and language preference on your device only. This website itself keeps only your language and theme choice, in your browser’s local storage on this device; it is never sent to us.
Children
Snartek is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We will post any change here and, for material changes, notify you by email.
