Everything from the box to daily use, in order. Snartek is an app for iPhone and Android and also runs at app.snartek.no in any browser.

1. Create your account

  1. Install Snartek from the App Store or Google Play, or open app.snartek.no in a browser. Choose Create account.
  2. Enter your email and a password of at least 10 characters.
  3. Open the email we send and press the confirmation link. Until you do, you cannot add devices.
  4. Log in. On the phone you are asked to choose a 4-digit PIN; fingerprint or face can be used as a shortcut. Everything else lives under Konto (the person icon top right).

No email? Check spam, then try Forgot password – it also tells you whether the address exists.

2. Set up the gateway

A gateway is the small box that carries your sensors' radio signals to Snartek. If a Snartek gateway already covers your area you can skip this – your sensors will simply work. Otherwise:

  1. 4G gateway: plug into power – done. Ethernet gateway: plug into power and a free port on your router.
  2. Wait about two minutes until the lights settle.
  3. In the app: Konto → My gateways → Add gateway. Scan the QR code on the gateway label, or type the 16-character Gateway ID.
  4. Give it a name (for example "Cabin") and press Add gateway. It shows Online with the time it was last heard and how many of your sensors it has heard in the last 24 hours.

Place the gateway high up, away from metal cabinets. One gateway usually covers a whole house and garden; concrete cellars may need it closer. Turn on Notify me if the gateway goes offline on the gateway page – you then get a message after power or internet loss.

3. Add a sensor

Every sensor box contains a white slip marked Registration Key with three codes. Keep it – it is the key to your sensor.

  1. In the app: Konto → Sensors → Add sensor. The first time, the button is also on the home screen.
  2. Photograph the slip in the box – close, straight on, good light. The app reads the codes on your phone (nothing is uploaded) and shows them; check any highlighted character against the slip and tap the right one.
  3. Alternatively scan the QR code on the sensor and type the APP KEY from the slip when asked, or enter everything by hand.
  4. Give the sensor a name and press Register. The app picks the right sensor type by itself.
  5. Now activate the sensor: hold the ACT button until the LED blinks (about 5 seconds), then let go. The app says Sensor added ✓ within a minute.

You have 10 minutes after pressing Register to activate the sensor. If your phone goes to sleep meanwhile, that is fine – open the app again and the sensor is there.

"Sensor rejected"

The network heard the sensor but the key did not match: a character was misread or mistyped. Press Enter key again, photograph or type the APP KEY once more, then press ACT again.

4. The home screen

Each sensor is a card with its latest reading and when it was last heard. Door and leak sensors show Open / Closed or Dry / Water! and the time it last changed. Pull down to refresh.

  • Card size: open a sensor → Settings → Small, Medium or Large. Large cards show a gauge with your alert limits marked.
  • Show on the card: a sensor that measures several things (temperature, humidity, battery…) lets you pick up to 3 readings for the card. The first one you tap becomes the big number.
  • Order: press Rearrange and drag cards. The order is saved on your account.
  • Hide a sensor: turn off Show on home in the sensor, or use the switches under Konto → Sensors. Hidden sensors keep their alerts, history and export; a small row on the home screen shows how many are hidden – tap it to see them.

"No contact" appears when a sensor has missed two check-ins in a row (about 25 minutes for a thermostat, 45 minutes for a climate sensor). The reading turns grey – it is the last one we received, not a live value. Check the battery in the sensor and that the gateway is online. Door and leak sensors only speak when something changes plus a heartbeat, so they show Unknown with the last known state once a heartbeat is missed; set their heartbeat under Control → reporting interval (15 minutes is a good choice).

Dashboards on the web

On app.snartek.no the home screen is a set of dashboards – one per floor, building or wall screen – shown as tabs at the top. + New dashboard makes another; a sensor can be on several or none. Press Rearrange to drag cards anywhere on the grid, pull the corner of a card to make it wider or taller (a taller card shows the gauge, the 24-hour chart and more readings), + Add card to put a sensor on this dashboard and × to take it off. The ⇄ button on a thermostat or bin card shows its controls instead of the reading.

Wall screen: on a tablet or TV, tick Wall display (view only) when logging in – that session can look but never change anything and stays signed in. Then open the dashboard you want and press 📌 Lock to this screen: tabs and buttons disappear and only that dashboard is shown. The faint 📌 in the corner unlocks it.

5. Rooms and names

Open a sensor to rename it or move it to a room. Rooms are created on the spot ("Kitchen", "Cabin – bedroom") and managed under Konto → Rooms, where you can rename, reorder or delete them. The home screen groups sensors by room. Names you type stay as you typed them when you switch language.

6. History

Open a sensor for its history: 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, with min and max. The shaded area marks the time before you added the sensor. How far back you can see depends on your plan (Konto → Billing).

7. Alerts

Open a sensor → Alerts → Add alert and choose what to be told about:

  • Value rises above / falls below a limit. The field tells you which way it fires, and a line under it shows the current reading – for example "You are notified when Temperature is below 5 °C · now 19.4 °C".
  • Door opens / water detected, the sensor goes silent, battery low, or the gateway goes offline.

You get an email and, in the mobile app, a push notification – usually within seconds. It repeats at most every two hours while the condition lasts, and you are told when things are back to normal. Everything that has fired is listed under Konto → Alerts, together with how you want to be notified and quiet hours.

8. Thermostats and controls

A radiator thermostat shows Control with − and +. Set the temperature you want and press Send (or Cancel to keep the old value). The card says Sent ✓ until the thermostat picks it up at its next check-in – usually within 15 minutes – then Done ✓, and the app sends you a notification.

  • Child lock disables the buttons on the thermostat itself. When it is on, the thermostat's display shows C4 or CH instead of reacting – that is normal, turn the lock off in the app to use the buttons again.
  • Open-window detection closes the valve for a while when the temperature drops fast.
  • Wall tablets with view-only access can see but not change anything.

9. Bins and tanks

A level sensor sits in the lid and measures the distance down to the contents. Open the sensor → Set tank size and enter the height (and width and length if you want litres). Choose what it is used for: Collects (bin – red when nearly full) or Supply (water – red when nearly empty). The card then shows percent full and, on large cards, a gauge.

Under Control every sensor has a reporting interval – how often it checks in (15 minutes to 8 hours for a level sensor, from 1 minute on climate sensors and thermostats). A longer interval means years more battery; a bin rarely needs more than once an hour. The change is sent at once and applied the next time the sensor checks in. Keep any "sensor goes silent" alert longer than the interval.

10. Security, look and updates

  • PIN: the app asks for your PIN (or fingerprint / face) every time you open it. Change it under Konto. Forgot it? Log out and in again.
  • Appearance: Light, Dark or System. Language: Norwegian, English or follow the phone.
  • Updates: small improvements arrive inside the app. When one is ready you get a dialog with what is new – press Update now; it takes a few seconds. Konto shows the version you run and whether it was updated over the air. Bigger releases still come through the App Store / Google Play.
  • Replay the introduction under Konto → Help if you want the short walkthrough again.

11. Your data

  • Export: Konto → Export data. Choose PDF (a report with a summary, one chart per sensor and a table) or CSV (raw table for Excel), the period and which sensors. Save it on the phone or share it by email.
  • Delete account: Konto → Delete account. Enter your password; deletion happens after a 7-day grace period during which you can cancel by logging in. Your sensors are released so they can be added to another account.
  • Details are in the Privacy Policy.

12. Remove or sell a sensor

Open the sensor → Remove sensor → confirm with your password. It stops reporting to you, and whoever has the box can add it to their own account. Keep the registration slip with the sensor when you sell it. Gateways are removed the same way under Konto → My gateways.

13. Troubleshooting

"This device is already on your account"

It is already added – find it under Konto → Sensors (it may be hidden from the home screen). Nothing to do.

"Registered to another customer"

The previous owner must remove it from their account first (section 12). If you bought it new from us, write to support with the ID on the label.

The sensor never joins

  • Is a gateway online? Check Konto → My gateways, or move the sensor closer to it for the first join.
  • Did the LED blink when you held ACT? If not, hold longer (5 s) or check the battery / pull the battery tab.
  • Still nothing after 10 minutes: press Retry and ACT again.

The gateway shows Offline

Check power and the network cable or 4G signal. After a power cut a gateway needs 2–3 minutes to come back. It shows Online again by itself.

The thermostat did not change

It only picks up changes at its next check-in, up to 15 minutes. If the card still says Sent ✓ after an hour, the thermostat is out of range of the gateway or its batteries are flat. If its display shows C4 / CH, child lock is on (section 8).

Readings look wrong

A temperature sensor in direct sun or on a cold wall reads its surroundings, not the room. Humidity above 95 % for days means water is condensing – act on it. If a value is impossible (−327 °C), the probe is unplugged. A bin that reads 0 % has a sensor pointing at the wall – it must face straight down.

The update dialog keeps coming back

Press Update now and let the app restart. If it still returns, close the app completely and open it again; if that does not help, send us the update log from Konto → Share update log.
